What is being proposed?
Shawfield Primary School is a one FE primary school located in Ash, Surrey. It is a vibrant and family orientated school that nurtures children’s academic, emotional, physical, moral and social development. It is a place that inspires the pursuit of excellence, personal growth and deeper understanding helping pupils develop into thoughtful and responsible global citizens. At Shawfield we strive to ensure that all our pupils reflect our motto ‘ We Shine’
The school has a long standing history within the local community but recently faced challenges with RAAC (Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete) with temporary remedial work undertaken by Surrey County Council in May 2023. Its close links with the local community and the wider Ash, Surrey area make the school a valuable community asset with the potential to offer modern and efficient spaces accessible to all local residents and the school community.
As part of the Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, Galliford Try, alongside a dedicated design team, has been appointed to create a new school building and external spaces. This exciting project will be driven by the school’s educational needs and the DfE’s Generic Design Brief and guidelines ensuring the school’s facilities are sustainable and fit for the future.
The project team has been working closely with the DfE and their technical advisors and engaging in pre-application discussions with Guildford Borough Council and Surrey County Council on the proposed development, in advance of submitting a planning application.
